At the beginning a little space inside the local hospital, in less than ten years a leader in Quality of Life care for thousands of individuals and families who find free services supporting them along their cancer journey.

How this was possible, how the center impacted the lives and the community will be the core of Mary Dempsey’s speech .

angela-novielloThe humanization of medical care

Angela Noviello

Italian Director and European Coordinator OTI Oncology Training International Oncology Esthetics

President of ISFOE International Society for Oncology Esthetics

Angela Noviello shares her experience in an area of esthetics absolutely innovative.

She is the first esthetic consultant to get, in Europe, Oncology Esthetics International Certificate.

The certification prepares professional estheticians, nurses and physiotherapists to provide safe and customized treatments in support of people impacted by cancer and recovering from those pathologies.

Along the years, oncologic patients have felt the need to integrate traditional surgical or medical treatments with complementary approaches.

Oncology Esthetics can help facing and, possibly, solving esthetic and relaxing issues.

The certification allowed Angela Noviello to participate, as volunteer, to the project “Salute allo specchio” (Health in the mirror) presented by San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

The goal of the program is to teach how to take care of once’s looks during therapies and treatments, helping feeling better with one self and the surrounding people .

Angela imported OTI Oncology Esthetics (supported by scientific literature) from Canada and she provides Training Sessions since April 2014 in partnership with San Raffaele Hospitals.

Brunella BovioBASTA POCO ONLUS (“It takes a little” onlus)

Brunella Bovio, Laughter Yoga Teacher

I’ve been working with “Basta poco Onlus” for three years as volunteer. The no profit provides several services to people impacted by oncologic pathologies.

I organize and lead Laughter Yoga classes in the Laughter Club to raise funds for the Onlus.

In cooperation with Progetto Giada (Giada’s Project) , we’ve created Life to Life two years ago: twice a year, in April and December, our no profit hosts 25/30 kids impacted by cancer and having treatments in Torino, Monza, Genova along with their families and they stay at the seaside for two weeks. In those week ends we organize games, art therapy, circus, laboratories, trips and much laughter!

I personally lead the program and Laughter Therapy sessions to bring smiles and serenity to parents who spend their lives in hospitals, dealing with treatments and worries.

For over a year I’ve been also meeting sick people and caregivers in their homes for personal sessions (coaching one to one) to help them relaxing, managing stress and bring back a smile to their faces.

saluto-dal-lagoCuore di Donna launched a very engaging challenge: to beat cancer paddling. The program “Dragonheart” was created in 2013, a team of women who embraced enthusiastically the project.

The no profit wants to prove the benefits of this sport activity on body, mind and in team building. It’s a way to take a challenge as dragon boat could become, more than sport, fun and relationships, an integration to traditional support measures, especially for women impacted by breast cancer.

Try to see! Programs by this were also activated by friends in Rome and Florence with excellent results. Together we are working to make this activity known even for its medical implications. The road is long and uphill, maybe the top can look far and out of reach, but the women of this no profit are used not to give up and to look to the future. With “Dragon Heart” they have achieved a very important goal up to now: having people facing cancer sharing light and fun moments on our wonderful lakes.
